Joshua Dorsey, 29, was sentenced to 96 months in prison, a judge announced, after he was was convicted of one count of aggravated assault while armed following his guilty plea in November last year.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023, members of the Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 1200 block of Good Hope Road SE, where they found a man suffering from stab wounds.

He was rushed to an area hospital, while Dorsey fled the scene before being apprehended by responding officers.

According to federal prosecutors, on the day of the stabbing, Dorsey approached his victim near the intersection of MLK Jr. Avenue SE and Good Hope Road SE and began punching his victim for unknown reasons.

Dorsey then pulled out a knife and began stabbing his victim eight or nine times in the chest and back, causing a collapsed lung. He also stabbed the victim in the right eye, they noted, and it is unclear whether or not the victim will ever be able to see again.

In addition to his prison term, a judge also ordered that Dorsey serve five years of supervised release.

Officials noted that in March, Dorsey is scheduled to be sentenced in a separate case in Superior Court following his convictions of second-degree cruelty and attempted strangulation.
